This blog is for music only, specifically of the rock or electronic genre.
You'll get music, videos, pictures, news, and anything else that relates to rock and electo music. Tell me if you wanna see something specific.
So what do you want to hear?
Anything with sounds based heavily on guitar or electronic instruments will pretty much meet the criteria.
These are the bands I've been listening to most recently, in order:
I created one. Well, podcasts so far, not done a live broadcast yet but I will at some point.
If you liked this year’s Download Festival, I’ve done a playlist for it, it includes Korn, Disturbed, Pendulum, System of a Down, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park and Hollywood Undead.
A song from Download 2011 that makes you wish you were there [again]?
I’ll even play it for you so we can all share.
One of mine was Korn’s Freak on a Leash, what’s yours?
And, any highlights?
Pendulum were mine but I am heavily biased as I love them long time in the butt.
Korn ~ Freak on a Leash
I entered my first moshpit to this song at last weekend (yes I’m late but they scare me…). Re-live some Download memories with me?
There were three bands that I absolutely didn’t want to miss this year at Download. They were the only reasons that I actually wanted to go in the first place. Disturbed were one of them.
Now, I’ve been into Disturbed for a good few years now and I had never seen them live before so understandably, I was excitedly anticipating their set.
Um. Right well, how do I begin? They were horrible live. They weren’t loud enough, David Draiman (vocals) didn’t sound on top form and I wasn’t very motivated. One thing I was really looking forward to was Draiman’s vocals but his trademark screams sounded different, like he was choking on something. It was almost cringe worthy.
There were lots of visuals in their set including something that looked like a movie scene during their first song Asylum. It felt to me like they were relying too heavily on the moving scenes behind them to make up for the fact that they were terrible. Also, Draiman’s movements and facial expressions made me perceive him to be someone who thought he was more hardcore than he actually was. Not cool.
I wanted to say good things about this band because I like them but it’s hard to with a performance like the one I witnessed. Maybe they just work best in the studio.
At a festival, you’re bound to find at least one band whose existence you didn’t know about before but fell in love with on the spot, Hollywood Undead were that band for me. The majority of the band wore masks or balaclavas, highly resembling a six-person gang that should probably be avoided if found on the streets of east London!
Had I not chosen to have a little wander by myself over to the main stage, they would most likely still be an undiscovered group for me. The first band that popped into my head when I heard Danny (one of several vocals) was Linkin Park as he sounds similar to Chester Bennington (But HD are definitely not as metal as LP). Add it to the fact that Linkin Park are also similar to the ‘rap-rock’ genre and the band association game continues.
Anyway, Hollywood Undead were catchy, enthralling and totally held my attention for the whole of their set.
There are lots of bands out there for everyone where they’re confident that any song they hear from said band will at least be liked, if not loved. Avenged Sevenfold are one of those bands for me.
I wouldn’t call myself a big fan as I know next to nothing about them as a band or as people and I don’t have many songs, but they have a damn good sound. The things that stand out about Avenged Sevenfold (or A7X as they are known for short) are the strong vocals and the lead guitar, no question. The guitar riffs are melodic, crisp and easy to keep up with while the vocals are simple to make out and very powerful (coupled with a nightmarish laugh that vocalist M. Shadows emits in several songs).
The album art backdrop behind the band changed a few times in accordance to the song they were playing and they dedicated a couple of songs to their fallen band member, The Rev. R.I.P.
They are a very talented band with an amazing sound and I applaud them for their performance at Download 2011.
Fun-loving, crazy and nonsensical. Surely it’s System. System of a Down are well-known for their strange lyrics, not taking themselves too seriously and just being a generally fun band. In that respect, they didn’t disappoint.
Once again, as they were the last band on for that night and as everyone knew who System of a Down were, the crowd certainly didn’t keep still. With a band that specialize in fast-tempo metal and equally fast vocals, they were going to cause a few moshpits anyway, regardless. One song –Lost in Hollywood – a song that could, uniquely, be classified as soft rock was a nice break from the hectic sound of their other compositions. It was definitely a weep-and-sway-your-hands-back-and-forth moment.
Unfortunately though, the sound could have been louder and someone commented that the vocals sounded a bit weak, so that let their set down a bit. That in no way makes me like and appreciate them any less, it just could have been better, that’s all.
